This is the only picture known to exist of Wilson Madison Starr. Mildred Starr Smith, one of Wilson's daughters, confirms that the children in the photograph are Wilson's youngest child, Janie Starr, and his son Billy Starr. I would estimate that this photo was taken in about 1930. | The elderly woman on the left is my GG Grandmother, Beulah Elizabeth Moore (1862-1933), who was married to Milton B. Starr. Next to her from left to right: Henry Allen Starr (1925-1990), son of Clarence LaFayette Starr (1892-1961) and Lennes Jones (1893-1989) (Clarence was a son of Milton and Beulah); Lennes Jones, and Lulu Kate Starr (1883-1966), daughter of Milton and Beulah Starr. This photo dates from about 1926, and was graciously provided by Jack and Norma Starr. Jack is the son of Arthur Roy Starr, who was another child of Milton and Beulah Starr.
Rubye Florence Starr, daughter of Wilson Madison Starr and Edna Jones Starr, c. 1914 | Rubye Starr Coleman and grandson, David Harper Coleman, Jr.
Headstone at grave of Micajah Brooks is found in the Woodson Hubbard Cemetery, Rockmart, Polk County, Georgia. Micajah Brooks (1761-1863) was the GGG Grandfather of Beulah Elizabeth Moore (1862-1933), who was married to Milton B. Starr (1856-1910). Micajah was married to Mary Hunter. The years listed for Micajah are not a typo, as he apparently lived over 100 years. He saw service in the American Revolution and died during the War for Southern Independence. | Gravemarker for Athaliza Pinkston (abt. 1755-1846), mother of Charlotte Ann Pinkston, wife of Benjamin Franklin Starr. Athaliza's first husband, Shadrack Pinkston (1750-1795) was a member of George Washington's personal Honor Guard, sometimes called "Life Guard," during the Revolutionary War. Athaliza is buried at the County Line Methodist Church Cemetery, Birdie, Spalding County, Georgia.
Marker at the gravesite of Hilliard M. Starr, my GGG Grandfather, at the County Line Methodist Church Cemetery, Birdie, Spalding County, Georgia. | Hilliard M. Starr, who gave his name to Starr's Mill, was the son of Benjamin Franklin Starr and Charlotte Ann Pinkston. Starr's Mill is among the most photographed and beautiful places in the state of Georgia.
Charlotte P. Starr, 1818-1902. She was the younger sister to Hilliard P. Starr. She was married to Caleb Woodson Simmons and died and was buried in Willamson County, Texas.
This is Starr's Mill, located just a short drive south of Fayetteville, Georgia. It takes its name after its second owner, Hilliard M. Starr (1814-1877), my 3rd Great Grandfather. | Once believed to be the old Benjamin Starr house, and said to have been built in the 1820's in Birdie, Henry (now Spalding) County, Georgia, further information from Gene Lamb indicates that this may in fact have been the house built and lived in by Benjamin's son, John Henry Starr.
Another photo of Starr's Mill, Georgia. Hilliard M. Starr and his wife, Martha Ann Doss, are both buried at County Line Methodist Church Cemetery, Birdie, Spalding County, Georgia. | Building formerly housing Silas Starr's store in Starrsville, Georgia, which I hear may have been demolished since this photo was taken. Starrsville is in Newton County.
Cemetery of the Hampton Church of God, Hampton, Henry County, Georgia. Until its relocation, this was the location of the Berea Christian Church, and hence, its cemetery. Milton B. Starr (my GG Grandfather), William Harrison Jones (my GG Grandfather), William Madison Starr (my Great Grandfather), their wives and many other of my relatives are buried here. | Railroad bed in Starrsville, Newton County, Georgia
Methodist church in Starrsville, Newton County, Georgia | Jack Milton Starr and Mildred Starr Smith. Jack Milton Starr is the son of Arthur Roy Starr and the grandson of Milton B. Starr. Mildred is the daughter of Wilson Madison Starr and the granddaughter of Milton B. Starr.
These three ladies are all daughters of Wilson Madison Starr and Edna Jones Starr. From left to right they are: Mary Beulah Starr Dunn, Martha Starr Eason, and Evelyn Jeanette "Janie" Starr Wilkerson. Along with their sister Mildred Starr Smith, they are all younger sisters of my grandmother, Rubye Starr Coleman. | Daryl K. Coleman (b. 1961), son of David H. Coleman, Sr., and grandson of Rubye Starr Coleman.
Opal Starr Stephens Mobley (1913-1994). Opal was the third child of Wilson Madison Starr and Edna Jones Starr. This photo graciously provided by cousin Wilson Stephens. | Sara Stephens Stanley, daughter of Opal Starr Stephens (1913-1994). An interesting note here is that Sara's husband, Charles Stanley, is grandson to Ella Estelle Hammond, who was sister to my Great Grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Hammond.
James Glenn Starr (1909-1991) and his wife, Irene Wallace (1907-1997). James Glenn Starr was the oldest child of Wilson Madison Starr (1880-1944) and Edna Jones Starr (1886-1957). Photo graciously provided by Martha Starr Stephens Eason, daughter of Wilson Madison Starr. | This photo, taken around 1955, is of Rubye Starr Coleman (1911-2004) and her uncle Clarence LaFayette Starr (1892-1961). Uncle Clarence was a brother to Wilson Madison Starr, and son of Milton B. Starr and Edna Jones Starr. Photo graciously provided by cousin Wilson Stephens, son of Martha Starr Stephens Eason, a daughter of Wilson Madison Starr.
Peggy Jean Smith Jones and her mother, Mildred Starr Smith. Mildred is a daughter of Wilson Madison Starr and Edna Jones Starr. | Left
to Right: Irene Wallace Starr, her husband Glenn Starr (son of Wilson Madison
Starr and Edna Jones Starr), and the woman holding the dog is Carolyn Stephens,
wife of Wilson Stephens, a nephew of Glenn's. Glenn was body guard to Herman
Talmadge and perhaps the most influential hourly man at the Ford Plant.
He was responsible for many a Henry County man getting a good job, and "I've
been on the Ford Payroll for forty-six years thanks to Glenn" says
his nephew, Wilson Stephens. When Senator Talmadge spoke at Glynn's funeral
he said,"Glenn asked a lot of favors of him, but it was always something
for someone else". |
